Curriculum Highlights

What a busy and fun month we've had in our classroom.  The kids have been busy learning and  doing many holiday activities.

Math - We finished Unit 3 in Go Math and the kids did a great job! We started Unit 4 last week. This unit focuses on many Addition Strategies to use when adding two digit numbers. Once the children learn all the strategies, they are encouraged to use the best one for their learning.

Reading – We are still in our Non-Fiction unit. Students really are becoming experts on reading Non-Fiction books. They continue to read a variety of texts and learn the components that differentiate Non-Fiction from Fiction.

Writing – The class is writing Non-Fiction Expert books. They are incorporating all the parts of a Non-Fiction book in their own books. The topics the kids have come up with are great! There will be a Learning Expo at the end of January where the children will highlight their Expert Books. More info to follow.

Social Studies - The class has been learning about Landforms and bodies of water.

Science – We continue to study Pebbles, Sand, & Silt. The class has sorted and observed the properties of sand. Coming up, the kids will be exploring clay, studying the uses of rocks, and making sand sculptures.  We will wrap up this unit in January.

*Please have your child read and practice facts over break.
