These Weeks We . . . December 1-12, 2014 · met our last 4 letters of the alphabet Qq, Xx, Yy and Zz, ASK ME their sound and key picture · welcomed a new month, December, and a new Good Morning song, and new spots on the rug and for math · traced and cut out many of our hands, ASK ME what we used them for · talked a lot about gifts and giving, and are very proud that our class collected $164.50 for the “Giving Project” · discussed the difference in gifts that we “need” and gifts that we “want” · did a T.L.C. of colorful gifts. They are in Santa’s sleigh in the hallway · made beautiful poinsettias for our classroom “tree for all seasons” · discussed “greater than”, “less than” and “is equal” · made ornaments for our classroom “tree for all seasons” · decorated a gingerbread boy using a glyph key · we also read many versions of the Gingerbread Girl, Man, Boy, Friend, and Baby story, ASK ME which one I liked best · in math we started learning about addition, hearing many word problems and from them making addition sentences. Also discovering how to find the 1st or 2nd add in for the addition sentence, the beginnings of algebra. · colored and read our own “Gingerbread House” book, ASK ME to read it to you, and what our new word wall word was – “the” · rolled 2 die and added them together to color a gingerbread boy · we practiced our letters and their sounds at rug time and played bingo on our dry erase board · are working on a label book for Christmas at Writer’s Workshop and made a class “Gingerbread ?” class book, ASK ME what I drew for the book · finished Chapter 4 in math and are on to Chapter 9 all about shapes · at Open Circle talked about cooperation and including others to play with us when we see someone looking like they would like to join us · Thursday we baked our own gingerbread boy and guess what - he ran away, ASK ME where we found him · added two new words to our word wall, “we” and “has”
