These Weeks We . . .                                               November 7-18, 2016

  • ·      learned 5 new letters Ll, Hh, Kk, Jj and Pp – practiced their sound and writing them
  • ·      read several books about Veteran’s Day to learn why it is a special day
  • ·      started to learn about the 1st Thanksgiving and are busy working on a book about it; learned a song about the difficult trip the pilgrims had crossing to the new land. We sang about it in our “Sail, Sail” song; talked about Squanto and the Wampanoag tribe and how they helped the pilgrims survive in the new world; learned a song about the Wampanoag’s, ASK ME to sing them for you
  • ·      read and have our own copy of books “Kittens” and “Veteran’s Day”
  • ·      had Open Circle we talked about giving compliments, a little smile for the heart
  • ·      heard some stories from a great South African storyteller, Valerie Tutson, Thank you TPA
  • ·      in math we finished Chapter 3 where we represented (in a 10 frame) counted and wrote numbers 6-9 and started Chapter 4 focusing on the number 10 and how it fills up a 10 frame and different number pairs we can use to compose a number 10 and the order of numbers
  • ·      added many new word wall words “you”, “to”, “dad”, “good”, “love”, “mom”, “stop”, “yes”, and “no” – WOW!
  • ·      in Reading Workshop we became “Super Readers”, practiced “pointing power.” Each word gets one tap and we designed our own pointers to use for tapping. ASK ME what Mrs. O’Shea wears during Readers Workshop
  • ·      had science and talked and illustrated how trees look in the fall and what drops from them and food from trees
  • ·      used IPADS in the classroom if we were “Fast Finishers” or had free time during the day, ASK ME what games we play on them

* When shopping for winter coats, boots, etc. please try to have   things that your child can independently take on and off, zip and       button, etc. they hate spending all recess getting ready for recess.       Also please label all your children’s clothes – Thank you
