October 10 – 21, 2016
These Weeks We . . .
- · were introduced to 2 letters, Ss and Dd. We practiced their sound
and how to write them
- · during Reading Workshop we continued to learn and practice
strategies to read our old favorite storybooks and took home a book from Mrs.
O’Shea to turn into our “favorite storybook”, how are we doing on that and we
now have our own book bins to read from
- · in
science we continued learning about trees, talked about the parts of trees and
what work they do for the tree, in our science journal we labeled the parts of
a tree
- · used magnetic boards and letter tiles to practice our sounds and
put our letters into alphabetical order
- · Lt. Findelin with the
Norfolk Fire Department came and spoke with us about fire safety and we made a
class Fire Safety book. He said we should plan a meeting spot in case of an
emergency.
- · used the word wall words
“I” and “like” and the word book to make two sentences and then glued on the
covers of books we have read and liked
- · in Art Mr. Reilly helped
us in learning to draw people
- · we drew an entry into our
journal on something we did over the weekend, the were many about the Haunted
Train Ride
- · during Writer’s Workshop
we continued on our stories or started new one, “When we are done we have just
begun.” Talked about using our sounds to spell words and asking ourselves
questions to think of more to add to our stories. We also tried writing with a
partner, telling them our story and having them give us ideas to make it
better.
- · read the book “Leaves” and
added “are” to our word wall, we put our copy in our book bins
- · labeled the cycle of a
pumpkin life, we had a pumpkin with a vine and a blossom from our Ward’s Berry
Farm trip to remind us
- · Mrs. Kelley read us the
story Spookley the Square Pumpkin, ASK
ME what it was about
